Sattva (2003)
for Prepared piano and Tape

SATTVA is a work for prepared piano and tape. The piano is prepared using metal objects, cymbals and crotales. The composition is based on the relation between textures, derived from cycles of impulses and the gestural energy of complex sound events which get enhanced into the horizon created by a rhythmical continuo.
In Samkhya phylosophy, SATTVA is one of the three energies (guna) which constitute the Prakriti (primordial substance): together with Rajas, the Movement, and Tamas, the Obscurity, it is the real essence of Man and it corresponds to immobility and clearness. When the harmony among the three gunas is broken, the Prakriti evolves, giving rise to the Creation.
