Gabriele Manca studied piano with Bruno Canino and composition with Giacomo Manzoni at the Conservatorio in Milan, where he graduated with distinction.
In 1985 he was the prizewinner of the "neue generation in Europa" competition, organized by the WDR-Köln, the Biennale-Venezia and Festival d'Automne-Paris.
In 2000 he won the Japan Foundation Uchida Fellowship.

In 2001 he wrote the soundtrack for "Rokurobyoe", a movie by the Japanese director Chiseko Tanaka.

He gave a number of workshops and lectures at the Melbourne University, Irino Foundation, Senzoku University, Toho Gakuen University, Theatre Winter, Tokyo College of Music, Italian Institute of Culture in Tokyo and at the Pontificia Universidad de Chile.
He teaches composition at the Conservatorio "Giuseppe Verdi" in Milan.
His scores are mainly published by RICORDI-BMG.
