Born in Rome, Massimo Bartoletti graduated in trumpet at the "Santa Cecilia" Conservatory where he also attended the composition class and the experimental jazz course held by Giorgio Gaslini. His professional career began while he was still very young with performances ranging from early music (CIMA - Italian Centre of Early Music) to jazz and contemporary music (Nuove Forme Sonore, Musica d'Oggi, Nuova Consonanza).
In 1978 he won the RAI national competition and joined the RAI Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma on a permanent basis. In 1980 he founded the David Short Brass Ensemble, playing with them for leading concert societies in Italy and also touring America, Spain, Finland, France, Austria and Germany with performances recorded by the national radio networks.
Bartoletti has also participated in the realization of numerous soundtracks, collaborating with composers like Nino Rota and Nicola Piovani, and in addition composed the music of Geo & Geo for Fonit-Cetra.
He collaborated with Giovanna Marini in the works Le cadeau de l'Empereur and Requiem, conducting the premiere of La dichiarazione dei diritti dell'uomo composed for the bicentenary of the French Revolution (a joint Antenne 2 - Scuola Popolare di Musica di Testaccio production).
Bartoletti is a founder-member and past president of the Testaccio School of Music and at present is a member of the school's Freon Ensemble, engaged in the research and diffusion of contemporary music, and of the Roma Bass Quintett.
He collaborates with the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Rome and is professor of trumpet at the "F. Morlacchi" Conservatory of Perugia.
