Baboni Schilingi (Chevalier de l’Ordre des arts et de lettres) started piano studies at the age of six with Angela Bonfanti. He began composing at the same age, followed first by Roberto Hazon and after by Italo Mattavelli. At the age of 14 he entered the class of composition of Ivan Fedele in Milan where he won his first prize for composition in 1994. In the same year he received the composition diploma of the Conservatoire National Supérieur G. Martini di Bologna. He studied conducting with Vittorio Parisi. He graduated in music composition contemporary Sezione di Musica Contemporanea of the Civica Scuola di Musica di Milano. At the age of 22 he was chosen by the reading panel
constituted by George Benjamin, Emmanuel Nunes, Gérard Grisey and David Robertson to participate in Cursus of composition and computer music at IRCAM. In 1996, he took part in the master classes of the Royaumont Academy with Brian Ferneyhough and Klaus Huber. In 1998 he obtained a DEA in the twentieth century musicology at the Ecole de Hautes Etudes under the direction of Hugh Dufourt. In 2010 he obtained his doctorate in musicology (summa cum laude) under the direction of Georges Molinié and Gianfranco Vinay.
