Jose Luis Garcia Vegara - Biography
San Fernando, 1983

Instrument: Oboe
Born in San Fernando in 1983, started playing the oboe at the age of nine at the Cartagena Elementary Conservatory. After an exchange year at the Seville Conservatory, he came back to Cartagena where 10 years later, having graduated from high school, he received the title of Grado Medio with first class in oboe performance under the guidance of Jose Manuel Saez and his private teacher Sarah Roper. He is an active member of the Spanish National Youth Orchestra, the European Union Youth Orchestra, the Royal Academy Orchestras and the Royal Academy Wind Ensemble. He is also a reserve member of the Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester, UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra and Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra. Jose Luis, has collaborated with, and has already been temporarily employed by some of the major Spanish professional orchestras such as the Seville Symphony Orchestra, and the Murcia Symphony Orchestra. In London he has collaborated with the London Session Orchestra performing in the Seychelles II International Music Festival, 2004. He has played in most major European cities, performing in the best music halls under the batons of such eminent conductors as Bernard Haitink, Sir Colin Davis, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Leopold Hager, Karl Anton Rickenbacher, Cristobal Halffter…  Jose Luis has successfully participated in some oboe competitions, amongst them "Marcha Arte Joven1998 " 1st prize, and "Leila Bull oboe prize" 2nd prize 2004. Three years ago he moved to London to study for his degree under the guidance of Tess Miller at the Royal Academy of Music, where he is currently on the 3rd year of the Bmus programme, supported by the Andalusian Government.
