Mauro Cardi
Terza Texture
(1988)
for Flutes, Bass clarinet and Piano

Length: 08:00
Editor: Ricordi
1 Performance: Palais des Festivals - Cannes - 01/1989

…The texture of a composition concerns its surface's nature. In the photography a strategic disposition of the sources of light may capture the tactile quality of a subject, expresses in depth, shape and tone, able to return the idea of the tridimensionality ...

…The coarse-grain textures, once they are enlarged or brought nearer the eyes, lose the synthesis they had reached, unveiling so new mysterious, amazing drawings: a tender oval crumbles in tiny snakes, a spot of red reveals a many coloured swarming. The conscious use of such effects, or the technical researches of the pointillism are examples of cases in which the texture of a work may became its main stylistic character

…What has always abtracted me working over the textures is that kind of continuous change of focal (from the foreground to the long focal) the see-saw between the level of the writing (foreground, punctual sight) to the whole-shot of the comprehensive view (formal-synthetic sight). The artisan dimension is proper to the first, confiding to the formal strategies the task to find a possible synthesis on the countless infinitesimals. The slender techniques through which the texture is gradually spun justify themselves, at the level of the form, in their capability to translate the outline of their results in plastic drawings, formally necessary.

"Terza Texture" elaborates a fluid develop idea in opposition to the action of emergent events, strongly characterized, that dot its weft. The work represents an ideal continuation of "Texture", for two guitars and "Texture 2", for cello.
