Emanuele Pappalardo
Sulle ali di un respiro
(1996)
for Bass clarinet, Soprano and Tape

In all my works, including the interaction between the sounds which are elaborated electronically and the real ones, I always try to strengthen at the most the relation between these two realities.
As initial moment of each work I try to create a sort of general background painting, a unifieing colour, using, for the parts which will have to be elaborated through electronics, materials coming from the same sound source through sampling.
After this first moment, I'm mostly interested in creating a constant ambiguity between "real" and elaborated sounds.
Sulle ali di un respiro is also submitted to this will: the tape sounds have all a natural origin; they are only clarinet sounds, which have been realised by the interpreter Guido Arbonelli, an exceptional researcher of new timbre possibilities. The work is dedicated to him.
