Quarto notturno

Une nymphe amie d'enfance
for Piano

Quarto Notturno and Une nymphe amie d'enfance are included in the third volume of the cycle of fifteen compositions for two pianos entitled "Visite d'amore" (1977-1985).
Quarto Notturno is a diatonic piece based on a simple sequence of four rising notes which repeated several times in its original form is slowly transformed in the final coda into a paraphrased Schubertian citation.
The French title of the second piece (a play on words by Marcel Duchamp) can not only be read "une nymphe amie d'enfance" (a nymph childhood friend) but also, by slurring the pronunciation, "une infamie d'enfance" (a childhood infamy). The initial score of this piece, based on a continuo in which the two pianos act as two mirrors sending each other a canon by inversion, dates back to 1973 when I was sixteen years old. Subsequently, in 1985, I added the introductory and final bars so as to enclose the childhood "nymphe" or "infamie" in a frame.
