Il giardino di Giada
(1983)
for Flute in g and String trio

"Il giardino di Giada" was written in 1983 for the oboist Pietro Borgonovo. The work was recently carefully reviewed in order to prepare a new version for flute in G and strings trio.
The setting of the title directly recalls the fantastic spots of the oriental palaces, magic and mysterious for being exclusively reserved to the divine emperor. Some of these gardens were projected in order to exalt the power of the jade. The Chinese revered it as precious, as the symbol of purity and imperial power; they also thought it had the magic power of inspiring the person who was contemplating it, with sublime thoughts.
The vegetal architecture of the garden was carefully studied to make the most of the symbolic geometries and colours of the garden depending on the flowing of the seasons and the various blooming.
The tangle of the leaves and the gleams of the coloured flowers reflect on the soul of the astonished visitor who becomes totally absorbed in contemplation.
But he will give a form to this vision, using its own imagination and mind, and will put order in this universe.
In this work the warm tonality of the flute symbolizes the emotions of this imaginary visitor re-creator; the subtle vibrations of the strings symbolize the malleable and detailed geometries of the flora.
