Alessandro Carbonare began his clarinet studies at age five, graduating with top marks in 1987 at Verona Conservatory. He took part in many Italian and International Competitions, winning six first prizes. He also earned significant awards at prestigious clarinet competitions in Paris, Toulon, Duino, Geneva, Prague and the Munich ARD. At present Mr. Carbonare has earned the most awards of any clarinettist in the world. Currently, Alessandro Carbonare lives in Paris. He is principal clarinetist (super-soloist) in the "Orchestre National de France (French National Orchestra). Additionally, he is extremely active both as a soloist and a chamber musician. As a soloist, Alessandro Carbonare has appeared with many notable orchestras including the Bayerischer Rundfunk Orchester, Cannes Orchestra, National Theatre Orchestra in Munich, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, I Solisti Veneti, Norwegian National Orchestra, Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester, Orchestre National de France, and Wien Sinfonietta.
In June 1996, he made his Berlin Philarmonie debut with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. The "Berliner Morgenpost" newspaper reported that "he performed...admirably, with an exceptional mellowness of sound in every register...". Moreover, Alessandro Carbonare has been invited by the Berliner Philarmoniker to perform as First Clarinettist for the 2000/2001 season. Mr. Carbonare's next engagements as featured soloist include concerts with the RAI Italian Radiotelevision Simphony Orchestra, S. Cecilia Orchestra, Oslo Philarmonic Orchestra, Copenaghen Philarmonic Orchestra, and Goteborg Philarmonic Orchestra. Alessandro Carbonare has worked with many prestigious conductors including Charles Dutoit, Gerd Albrecht, Jerzij Semkov and Sir Yehudi Menuhin. He has performed as principal clarinettist with Riccardo Muti, Seji Osawa, Charles Dutoit, Kurt Mazur, Eugeny Svetlanov, George Prètre, Yeudi Menuhin, and Bernard Haitink.
In an effort to expand the repertoire of clarinetists, Carbonare will give the world premieres of clarinet concertos written for him by Salvatore
Sciarrino and Ivan Fedele during the 2001/2002 season. He will also premiere Luis De Pablo's clarinet concerto in November 2000, accompanied by the Orchestra Nacional De Espana.
As a member of the woodwind quintet "Il Quintetto Bibiena", Alessandro Carbonare has collaborated with important artists such as Massimiliano Damerini, Emmanuel Pahud, Boris Pergamenshikoff, Christian Ivaldi, Pierre Amoyal, Clair Desert and Pinkas Zukerman. His next performances include concerts with several Italian orchestras, a Tournèe in Japan, as well as recitals in Paris, Norway, Portugal and the U.S.A. Mr. Carbonare has recorded several works on compact disc that have won prizes and critical acclaim. He has recorded seven CDs as soloist, including clarinet masterworks by J. Brahms & R. Schumann, fantasy arrangements on themes by Giuseppe Verdi (a world premiere), and Mozart's and Rossini's concertos with the Pforzheim Orchestra. These can be heard on the Agora Musica label. His recording of the complete works for clarinet and string quartet by Mozart and Brahms is available on the prestigious French label, Harmonia Mundi.
