Conductors

Italian composer of mostly stage and chamber works that have been performed throughout Europe and elsewhere; he is also active as a conductor and writer.
Caprioli studied composition with Franco Margola and Camillo Togni and conducting with Piero Guarino at the Conservatorio A. Boito in Parma from 1975-83 and choral conducting with Tito Gotti the "Conservatorio G.B. Martini" in Bologna from 1977-79. He studied conducting with Otmar Suitner at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna from 1979-83, on a scholarship from the Bundesministerium für Wissenschaft und Forschung, and attended composition masterclasses with Boguslaw Schaeffer at the Salzburg Mozarteum from 1985-87. He later studied humanities with Ezio Raimondi at the Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia of the Università di Bologna from 1993-97, where he earned his doctorate.
His honors include a mention in the Avignon competition (1985, for A la dolce ombra). His music has been performed in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, The Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, and the USA. He has received commissions from numerous Italian theatres, including the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, as well as from the Centre de Création Musicale Iannis Xenakis in Paris, the Internationale Bachakademie in Stuttgart, the Warsaw Autumn and Wien Modern festivals, and the Wiener Konzerthaus, among other festivals, organizations and theatres. Portrait concerts have been given at the Aspekte in Salzburg (1989) and Begegnungen in Innsbruck (2001) festivals, as well as at the Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste in Munich (2003).
As a conductor, he has led performances of classical and contemporary music with ensembles and orchestras in Austria, Germany, Italy, and The Netherlands. As a writer, he has written numerous articles on literature and music for publications in Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Italy, Poland, and the USA. He has also served on the board of directors of the Società Italiana di Comparatistica Letteraria at the Università di Firenze since 1994.
He has taught orchestral training and served as chair of this department at the "Conservatorio G.B. Martini" in Bologna since 1989.
