Conductors

Born in Milan in 1973, Tito Ceccherini studied at the Milan Conservatory Giuseppe Verdi with Giovanni Carmassi (piano), Alessandro Solbiati (composition) and Vittorio Parisi (conducting). He went on studying in Russia, Germany and Austria, completing his musical talents with Peter Eötvös (Hochschule in Karlsruhe), Sandro Gorli and Gustav Kuhn. A supporter of contemporary music, he boasts an intense collaboration with composers such as Hugues Dufourt, Ivan Fedele, Philippe Hurel, Salvatore Sciarrino, etc. Highlights of the several world premieres include the posthumous performance of Sette by Niccolò Castiglioni, the recent production of Superflumina by Salvatore Sciarrino in NationalTheater Mannheim, and Fénelon's La Cerisaie at the Bolshoi Theatre and at the Opéra de Paris. Tito Ceccherini is the founder of the ensemble “Risognanze”, a prestigious group with which he performed masterpieces of the chamber music repertoire from Debussy to our days and recorded works by Sciarrino, Castiglioni, Grisey. Deeply interested in ancient music, he has collaborated with ensembles such as the Finnish “Rocinante” and the Italian “Arcomelo”, performing repertoire of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries on period instruments.

In the concert field Ceccherini has conducted leading orchestras, among which the BBC Symphony, SWR Stuttgart, Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale RAI (with which he recorded a monographic CD dedicated to Giacinto Scelsi, 3CDs box of Salvatore Sciarrino' symphonic works, as well as works by Daugherty and Nyman), Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, Orchestre de Chambre de Genève, Teatro La Fenice Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano “G.Verdi”, OSI in Lugano, Orchestra Haydn in Bolzano and celebrated ensembles such as Klangforum Wien, Contrechamps, OENM, Divertimento Ensemble in major venues (Tokyo Suntory Hall, Petersbourg Philharmonic Hall, Lingotto in Turin), and international festivals (Schwetzingen Festspiele, Münchner Biennale, Strasbourg Musica, Cité de la Musique...).

Tito Ceccherini has a wide operatic repertoire ranging from De Majo's Alessandro (1765), through Italian Belcanto (Bellini’s I Puritani, Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda, etc) and Strauss (Guntram, Ariadne auf Naxos), up to several world premieres (Sciarrino, Fénelon, etc.), which he conducted in theatres such as Opéra National in Paris, Bolshoi Theatre, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Teatro Bellini in Catania…

Highlights of his upcoming engagements include his debuts at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Festival d'Automne in Paris with Frankfurt Radio Orchestra, Orchestre National de Montpellier, GUNMA Symphony Orchestra, as well as his return to the Opéra de Paris, OSI in Lugano…

In August 2012 he will make his debut at the Lucerne Festival conducting the new “Pollini Perspectives” project with Klangforum Wien, Neue Vocalsolisten and Maurizio Pollini. The project will be also presented at the Suntory Hall, Salle Pleyel, etc.

Tito Ceccherini records for Amadeus, Col legno, Kairos, Stradivarius, greatly acclaimed from both audience and press with “Choc” du Monde de la Musique and Diapason D'Or. The recording of Sciarrino's Lohengrin for Col legno has been awarded at the MIDEM CLASSICAL AWARDS.

He has been teaching in Europe and Japan and is a member of the Montegral Academy. At the moment, he holds the chair of conducting and orchestral exercises at the Innsbruck Landeskonservatorium and collaborates with the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris.
