He studied music at the "Santa Cecilia" Conservatory of Rome under the guidance of Semproni and Caffarelli for trumpet and D'Elia, Antonelli and Petrassi for, respectively, band instrumentation, choral music and composition. He joined the association "Nuova Consonanza" in 1965 and has been a member of the GINC (Improvisation Group of Nuova Consonanza) since the end of that year, being actively involved during the years of the group's maximum development.
Although he remained always actively interested in the field of contemporary music, he has devoted himself principally to composing music for films, working with celebrated producers - both Italian (Bellocchio, Bolognini, Cavani, Lattuada, Leone, Lizzani, Petri, Patroni Griffi, Pontecorvo, Salce, Samperi and the Taviani brothers) and foreign (Carpenter, Fuller and others).

His compositions include pieces for orchestra (from Variazioni su tema di Frescobaldi, 1956 to Concerto per flauto e violoncello, 1985), chamber music for various formations (from solo piano to large ensemble) and vocal music. The following merit particular mention among the cantatas and pieces for voice and ensemble: Gestazione for female voice, viola, piano, harpsichord, tape, double bass, tam-tam and orchestra (1980) and Due poesie notturne for soprano, guitar and string quartet (1982).
