Mr. La Licata began his musical education at the Palermo Conservatory, where he studied composition with Eliodoro Sollima and also harpsichord and piano and received a diploma in piano in 1978. In 1982-83, he studied conducting in London and Geneva and received a diploma in composition from the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome in 1983. In 1987, he worked as an assistant to Iannis Xenakis at the première of his Oresteia and in 1988, he founded the Zephir Ensemble in Palermo, which focuses on new music and with which he organizes the "Musica su più dimensioni" multimedia workshops.
His works have been performed throughout Italy at most major festivals, as well as abroad in Bergen, Buenos Aires, Geneva,

Lausanne, Munich, Paris, Reykjavík, St. Petersburg, Salzburg, Tokyo, Warsaw, and Zürich by many outstanding ensembles and orchestras.
He now lives in Bologna, teaches score reading at the Cesena Conservatory and is a participant in the preparation of a critical edition of the works of Bruno Maderna.
