Riccardo Dapelo
I suoni che distilli
(1996)
for Tape

Length: 10:10

The work is derived from the poetry of Eugenio Montale " RESTA LONTANO ..." The text of the poetry was initially read (only few significants words were sung) by the soprano Daniela Aimale. Like the title " I suoni che distilli" (the sounds that you distil) suggests, the attempt of this composition is to extract the essence, the pure sound of poetic language. This was made with different tecniques of processing the human voice (spectral and dynamic granulations, extraction of harmonic or inharmonic components, vocoder).Together with this processes have been used mimetic and synthetic sounds variously interpolated with voice grains (some original Csound instruments for morphing and granular synthesis). The poetry ends with the words "era già scritto" (it was already written) and perhaps also this piece (these distilled sounds) was already written/included into the the deepest sense of the words of the Poet. To obtain a sensation of movement between foreground/background the piece is developed in differents levels (each with its own dynamic grade of reverberation and/or volume) laid one upon the other.
