"Al Nur" (The Light) is the story of the intense encounter, on both a personal and a professional level, between Alessandro Cipriani (a well-known Italian composer of electroacoustic music) and Nour-Eddine Fatty (Berber musician and singer who records with CNI). It's a meeting that moves them to undertake a journey from Rome to Morocco, along the desert, through the inland cities, and over the mountains of the Rif. There the flow of rhythms, the expressive faces, the traditional ceremonies, the singing along the roads and the voices raised in prayer all reverberate and find an echo in the two musicians' hearts and identities, leading to the creation of a composition, "Al Nur", that brings two musical cultures and two forms of spirituality face to face. The piece was selected and performed at the International Computer Music Conference held in Beijing in 1999, accompanied by the gorgeous choreography of a young but well-known choreographer Wang Yuan Yuan, with Chinese dancers >from the Beijing Modern Dance Company.
