Energy, virtuosity and frequent use of pulsation feature Oscar Bianchi's music, as well as a skillful manipulation of timbre, an acute sense of dramaturgy and a close familiarity with electronics. Between stasis and activity, he explores the contrast of "everything which is in between, longing for the depth of these two extremes".
"From a very refined harmonic ear, Bianchi has the very modern ability to dramatize musical forms through mastery of texture, in its thousand details. "(Jean-Luc Plouvier, ICTUS ensemble).
His first opera, Thanks to My Eyes, commissioned by the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and Theatre&Musique with libretto and staging by Joel Pommerat has received widespread critical acclaim from audiences and critics ('Un magistral portrait de la melancolie' Le Monde, 7.7-2011). In 2007 Neue Vocalsolisten and Ictus ensemble premiered his cantata MATRA, soon to be released in CD. His music is played by prestigious ensembles and orchestras such as Orchestre Philarmonique de Radio France, EnsembleModern, Klangforum Wien, Les Percussions de Strasbourg, ICE, Remix. After studying piano, composition, choral music and electronic music at Milan Conservatory,
he fostered his education at IRCAM, Darmstadt Ferienkurse and at Columbia University in New York. He's been artist in residence at the DAAD Kunstlerprogramm Berlin and Pro-Helvetia Warsaw. Upcoming works include a bass clarinet concerto for the Gewandhaus Leipizg, his first string quartet to be premiered by Diotima at Huddersfield festival 2011 and new works for Neuevocalsolisten Stuttgart, Ensemble Modern and Ictus. In 2010 Musica Strasbourg has dedicated a portrait of his music and the world premiere of Ajna Concerto. A monographic CD is expected for release in 2013.
