Born in Milan, he attended the "G.Verdi" Conservatoire where he studied piano with P. Rattalino, composition with A. Corghi and conducting with M. Gusella and G. Gelmetti, whose assistant he later became. He specialised as a conductor in Holland with K. Kondrashin.
He has conducted the leading Italian symphony and chamber orchestras, as well as those of numerous opera houses, including the Opera in Rome, the Fenice in Venice, the San Carlo in Naples and the opera houses in Genoa, Treviso, Catania, Cagliari and Cosenza. He has also given concerts in Holland, Germany, France, Czechoslovakia, Switzerland and Albania, where he has also made recordings for radio and television.
He conducted the first modern performance of Ape musicale by Da Ponte, which was subsequently recorded by Nuova Era during recitals at the Fenice in Venice. He also gave the first theatrical performance of Malipiero's Sogno di un tramonto d'autunno and the first public performance of Don Perlimplin by Maderna.
He has conducted the first ever performances of composers like Petrassi, Pennisi, Rendine, Facchinetti, Gentilucci, Tutino, Renosto, Calligaris and numerous others while attending major international festivals in Italy and elsewhere.
He was permanent conductor of the Orchestra dell'Angelicum from 1984 to 1988 and Gruppo Strumentale Nuova Consonanza in Milan from 1981 to 1985, and currently directs the dèdalo ensemble in Brescia.
He has made recordings for Nuova Era, Naxos and Bongiovanni.
He has worked with internationally renowned soloists and teaches conducting at the Milan Conservatoire.
