Carla Magnan, born in Genoa (Italy), pupil of Adelchi Amicano and Luigi Giachino, got her diploma in Composition Piano and Harpsichord at the conservatory of her city, carrying out in the meanwhile also university.
She attended instrumental specialization courses on the antique, classical, contemporary and jazz repertoires with famous teachers including Kenneth Gilbert, Maria Rosa Moretti, Massimiliano Damerini, Mauro Castellano, Francesco La Licata and on the composition of film music and cinematographic techniques, with Alearco Ambrosi, Giorgio Gaslini and Carlo Savina.
She deepened her studies in composition with Mauro Bonifacio at the Romanini Foundation in Brescia. In 2001 she got her Diploma at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena under the guidance of Azio Corghi, and she also earned a scholarship.
In 2003 she got the Diploma di Alto Perfezionamento at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, and the Composition Master under the guide of Azio Corghi.
During her intense activity as a composer she was awarded prizes including the first prize at the XX International Composition Competition ICOMS Città di Torino in 2002, the third prize at the 23° National Composition Competition "Ente Concerti Castello di Belveglio" (Asti) in 2001 and the first prize at the Sacred Music National Competition "Ente Concerti Castello di Belveglio" (Asti) in 2005. She also got acknowledgements at the TIM-Torneo Internazionale di Musica in Rome in 2004, at the XXVII Premio Valentino Bucchi di Roma Capitale in 2004 and 2005, at the 32° International Competition Guido d'Arezzo in 2005.
She is also a pianist and an harpsichordist in several chamber groups, and plays music of the Renaissance and the Baroque as well as the Twentieth-century repertoire.
In February 2000, as harpsichord player, she won an European Community Scholarship for a high specialization course in ancient music at the Scuola Musicale of Saluzzo, graduating in August of the following year.
She is also author of theatrical operas.
Her works are regularly performed by chamber and orchestral groups in prestigious places all over Italy and abroad, among which: Teatro Carlo Felice (Genoa); Teatro Gustavo Modena (Genoa); Palazzo Chigi Saracini (Siena); Sala Accademica del Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia and Auditorium Parco della Musica (Rome); Piccolo Regio for Settembre Musica (Turin); Damas, Alep, Jerash (Jordany); Aix-en-Provence (France) and University Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts (New York).
She also collaborates with the Association Ecume (Echanges Culturales en Méditeranée) and with SuonoSonda, contemporary music research magazine, from its fundation in 2003.
Some of her works are edited and recorded by RaiTrade Edizioni and by SuonoSonda Edizioni.
She teaches "Teoria e solfeggio" at the Conservatory Lucio Campiani in Mantova.
