Instrument: Ensemble
The "Novecento e oltre" ensemble was formed thanks to the initiative of Antonio Ballista.
At the threshold of the twenty-first, the twentieth century seems surprisingly long and prolific, but still not enough a part of public performances. The "Novecento e oltre" ensemble, contribute performing, besides its historical 1900s repertoire, some of the most recent invigorating compositional experiences. The basis of "Novecento e oltre" is constituted by the "Paolo Borciani" quartet and other extraordinary musicians selected by Antonio Ballista with the desire to create a omogeneus and variable group until 25 instrumentalists, able to perform a very large contemporary repertoire without difficulties. The pianist and conductor Antonio Ballista considers the direction of this ensemble as the synthesis of his various musical experiences. "Novecento e oltre" started its activity in 1995, on the occasion of the performance of the composer's death, which took place in Palermo on the behalf of the EAOSS and the Amici della Musica. Since then this ensemble played in some of the most prestigious Italian musical institutions, as Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Unione Musicale in Turin, la Società dei Concerti of Trieste, Ente Concerti of Pesaro, Amici della Musica of Perugia, Società dei Concerti "Barattelli" in L'Aquila, Istituzione Universitaria dei Concerti in Rome.
