Instrument: Ensemble
Contempoartensemble was founded in 1992 by Mauro Ceccanti who is the conductor and musical manager of the group: the ensemble is constituted by a group of soloists that vary from one occasion to the other and focus their attention on contemporary and XX century music. The core of their belief is the conviction that a strong tie exists between visual arts and music; that is why Contempoartensemble cooperates with the Centre for Contemporary Art "L. Pecci" in Prato, giving concerts also in alternative venues like museums and galleries. Following this line, most of their recordings has been realised in tight collaboration with some of the leading contemporary artists who realised the boxes and covers of their recordings: Sol Lewitt (CD ARTS including works by Berio, Bussotti, Sciarrino, Xenakis was the first CD to be part of MOMA Museum in New York), Michelangelo Pistoletto, Jean Michel Folon, Daniel Buren and Gerhard Richter.
Critics of many magazines and newspapers (Orpheus, The Guardian, Repertoir, CD Classica, Diapason, Amadeus, Music Magazine, Salzburger Nachrichten, FonoForum, Stradivarius) wrote about their activities and many composers are collaborating in a friendly atmosphere with the ensemble: Peter Maxwell Davies, Marc Yeats, Steve Reich, Hans Werner Henze, Salvatore Sciarrino, Fabio Vacchi, Giorgio Battistelli, Sylvano Bussotti, Adriano Guarnieri, Luca Lombardi, Alessandro Sbordoni. Many of them also dedicated to the ensemble and its conductor some of their works.
In May 2002 Contempoartensemble has opened the Biennale di Venezia with the work Don Perlimplin by Bruno Maderna and took part to the 65th edition of Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
