Spice (Ronda N. 2) (1990)

Commissioned by the Quorum Quartet of London, Spice was written in 1990 and had its first performance in that city on 19 February 1991.
As the title suggests, the piece utilizes a fragment taken from the final arrangement of Ronda, a composition for violin, viola, cello and piano written in 1984 for the Ivaldi Quartet of Paris. In this case the clarinet takes the place of the viola, the development starts from the preceding piece and becomes formally autonomous according to a sequence of consecutive transformations following the formal techniques favoured by the composer.
