A first version of Birds was composed for solo tape as a part of the dance piece Naturalmente Tua, produced by the Altroteatro Dance Company with the coreography by Lucia Latour. This version was realized in 1995 for the festival "Musica" of Strasbourg and in 1996 he is winner of the prize for electroacoustic music with live instruments at the "23me Concours International de Bourges".
For the realization of the piece the composer used a base materials tremolos and repeated sounds, played by bass clarinet and birds song. All of the sounds were elaborated digitally and edited without to change their natural qualities.
Birds is in four parts: the first and last ones both utilize rithmic ostinatos based on the same pitch of the clarinet wich vary in density and timbre from two to fourty superimposed parts. In the second part the clarinet ostinato and the elementary rhythms of the birds song are superimposed to create complex overlappings. The third part which is similar to the second one regarding the relationship of the type of sounds, uses bass clarinet tremolos of varying speed. The four parts are separated by short solos of elaborated bird song.
Birds was realized in the Edison Studio - Rome with the collaboration of David Keberle.
