He completed his musical studies at the Academy of Music at Cagliari obtaining a degree in Piano (1958), Choir Music and Choir Conduction (1960) and Composition (1961). He attended specialisation courses with Giorgio Federico Ghedini (Venice 1960, 1962, 1963), Goffredo Petrassi (Rome 1963) and Piotr Perkowski (Warsaw 1964, 1965 with scholarships of the Foreign Office). He also attended the Ferienkurse für Neue Musik (Darmstadt 1966) and Franco Evangelisti's course in electronic music (Rome 1968).

He is author of theatre, television, symphonic, choir, electronic and chamber music works performed in Europe, America and Japan. Is winner of several composition contests: Girolamo Frescobaldi (Venice 1960, with Varie partite sopra Frescobaldi), Giovanni Batista Viotti (Vercelli 1961, with Tre canzoni spagnole), Internationales Komponisten-Seminar (Boswil 1976, with Praxodia I), Rassegna Internazionale del Teatro da Camera (Terni 1979, with Praxodia II). From 1965 to 2000 he taught Composition and Experimental Composition at the Academy of Music Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina in Cagliari. During the academic years 1985/86 and 1986/87 he taught Music Theory at the University of Cagliari. Since 1982 he is artistic director of the Festival Spaziomusica, an international contemporary music event which takes place in Cagliari yearly. He's also a member of the Editor Author Italian Society (SIAE), lyric section. Publishers: Ricordi, Edipan, Curci.

His compositions were performed into numerous Festivals and Reviews of Contemporary Music: Biennale (Venice), Musik Unserer Zeit (Stuttgart), Warszawska Jesieñ (Warsaw), Musica del Nostro Tempo (Milan), Nuova Consonanza (Rome), International Festival of Contemporary Music (Los Angeles), Unerhörte Musik (Berlin), Perspectivas (Madrid), Wochenende für Neue Musik (Bayreuth), De Ijsbreker Nieuwe Muziek (Amsterdam), Foro Internacional de Musica Nueva (Mexico City), Synthèse (Bourges), Encuentros (Buenos Aires), Musica del Siglo XX (Bilbao), Festival Internacional de Musica Contemporanea (Alicante), Saptamana Internationala a Muzicii Noi (Bucarest), Le Son Nouveau (Ville d'Avray), Komaba Eminars (Tokyo), Internationales Pianoforum (Heilbron), Encontros Gulbenkian de música contemporânea (Lisbon).
He carries on an intense research activity in the field of theory, musical semeiology and ethno-musicology. Is author of "General theory of the musical language" (1975), of "System of cunzertus delle launeddas" theory (1986) and of a extensive research regarding the "launeddas" musical repertoire (1985), polyphonic popular wind instrument, elaborated on commission of the Istituto Superiore Regionale Etnografico of Nuoro.

He participated as lecturer at international study conferences such as: Musical analysis - Computer - Grammar (Modena 1982), Second Electroacustic Music Yamaha International Conference (Tokyo 1990), Time and Space in the Nono's Sound (Cagliari, 1992), The Music and the Multiple (Milan 1996). He carried on a vast seminar activity. To be mentioned: New Materials for the Today's Music (Turin 1996), Composing Today: Between Casualness and Determinism (Buenos Aires 1996), Analysis and Interpretation of the Musical Text (Cagliari 1997), Nineties Composition Strategy (Cagliari, 2002). Numerous were the lectures hold on his own musical production: Aterforum (Ferrara 1981), Kunitachi University (Tokyo 1990), University of Atsugi (Atsugi 1990), Internationale Ferienkurse für Neue Musik (Darmstadt 1992, 1994), Falleri-Balzo Conservatory (Montevideo 1996), Di Nuovo Musica (Reggio Emilia, 2001), XXIV Foro Internacionale de Música Nueva Manuel Enríques (Mexico City, 2002), Escuela Superior de Música (Mexico City, 2002), Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (Querétaro).
