Instrument: Percussion
Antonio Caggiano started his studies in percussion instruments and composition at L'Aquila Conservatory and later on at "Santa Cecilia" Conservatory of Rome. He attended the advanced training courses with G. Burton and D. Friedman.
Interested in the innovations of the international music scene, in 1987 he founded together with G. Ruggieri the Ars Ludi Ensemble. He performed with the ensemble at important festivals and at national and international concert series in Europe, United States, China, Canada, Mexico, South America ... This musical activity allowed him to establish many collaborations with some of the major contemporary composers (like Ambrosini, Andriessen, Battistelli, Bussotti, Ceccarelli, Curran, De Pablo, Duckworth, Volker-Heyn).
He has collaborated with the leading lyrical-symphonic institutions in Italy; since 1998 he is timpanist of O.C.I. conducted by Salvatore Accardo.
He has been working as a soloist with many chamber groups (Solisti della Filarmonica, Algoritmo, Roma Sinfonietta, etc.).
He is teacher of percussion instruments at Frosinone Conservatory and is interested in the fusion of different artistic languages.
He writes music for theatre, dance and collaborates with visual artists like I. Ducrot, C. Accardi and F. Mauri. He participated in the exhibition "Le opere e i giorni" at the Certosa of Padula on an invitation by Achille Bonito Oliva, for whom he wrote together with L. Ronchetti the music of "A.B.O.RDO DELLE ARTI" a contemporary art feature broadcast on Sky channels.
He held interpretation courses about works for percussion instruments at the Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte in Montepulciano, seminars at Sibelius Academy and stages all over the world.
He recorded for many international broadcasting organisations and for the labels: RCA, EMI, Edipan, Lovely Music (USA) e D.G.G. with the "Accademia di Santa Cecilia".
