Francesco Abbrescia - Biography
Bari, 1972

Francesco Abbrescia was born in Bari in 1972. He has studied piano, singing, and choir direction; he is about to graduate in Composition (G. Francia). He has earned a first level degree with honour in Music and New Technologies, at the Conservatory "N. Piccinni" in Bari. The title of his dissertation is "Computer-assisted Instrumental and Musical Composition".
He has founded and directs the Goitre Choir, of the Harmonia Association - Choir and Orchestra of the University of Bari. With this choir he has carried out several concerts in various Italian cities.
He has been artistic director of the annual review of contemporary music, "New Musics", since 2004.
He has been assistant at sound direction for the premiere of the musical dramatic dialogue "Pia", by Azio Corghi (Siena, 2004). On such occasion he could co-operate with the Swingle Singers, one of the most important vocal groups in the world.
Francesco Abbrescia is assistant operator for the interactive electronics and multimedia for the class in Music Film Composition by Luis Bacalov in the summer courses of the Chigiana Musical Academy, Siena (2005-2008).
He is a member of Sin[x]Thésis, research and production group for the class in electronic music in his own Conservatory, founded and directed by F. Scagliola, with whom he has executed several concerts at home and abroad.
He is particularly involved in modelling and informatics of composition processes and musical composition, both electroacoustic and instrumental; he strongly believes in research which leads him to building new electronic tools and his own techniques of algorithmic writing. After the conference "Mathematica Italia user Group Meeting" (Roma 2008) he published the paper "Computer-assisted Instrumental and Musical Composition. An implementation from a general model".
Some of his compositions have been used to comment some multimedia works as well as dance shows: for the Carovana Association "In the backyard" (1999) and "The fifth cord" (2000) by Lisa Masellis, Qualibò Association "Rebecca or the Invented Alphabets" (2002) by Lisa Masellis, ResExtensa Association, "Bosch: Without a face (2007) by Elisa Barucchieri.
